How to fix the O2 time server

Back to home

The default time server on older versions of the O2 Wireless Box II/III firmware is acs.broadband.o2.co.uk, however this host does not respond to time server (NTP, SNTP) requests. This will result in the Event Log being cluttered up with messages saying "SNTP Unable to contact server: 82.132.141.225". However, there is another O2 time server which you can use to correct these errors.

Please note: This issue has been fixed in the latest firmware. It is recommended to upgrade the router firmware and reset to factory defaults, then the time server will be correct.

1) Open your router's interface by visiting http://192.168.1.254/. If you are prompted for a login the username is "Administrator" and the password is the serial number of your router (printed on its underside, excluding the bit in brackets).

2) Click: Toolbox > Switch User

time

3) In the dialog box type username "SuperUser". The password is either "O2Br0ad64nd" or the serial number of your router (printed on its underside, excluding the bit in brackets). Due to a bug in the router you may have to enter it twice.

4) Click: O2 wireless box II/III > Configuration

time

5) Click Configure located at the top-right of the screen.

6) In "Time Server 1" change acs.broadband.o2.co.uk to ntp.broadband.o2.co.uk. Click Apply.

Your router is now configured with a valid time server. View the Event Log to confirm your router is receiving its time correctly.
